She Has Arrived! | Thunder Bay Newborn Photography

I photographed this sweet baby's Mom while she was pregnant and then was waiting and waiting for this little one to arrive!

I don't know who was more anxiously awaiting her arrival - her parents or her photographer?

She was such a great sleeper that we were able to get a special shot of her in the nest with an owl hat that will fit in perfectly with her nursery theme of "forest animals." The cute smile was an unexpected bonus!

No blog post is complete without pictures! ...and an extra one because no matter how cute they might be, pictures of toes don't count!

Long Overdue | Thunder Bay Newborn Photography

We're long overdue for a post involving adorable babies that is! I had to take some time off around the holidays but I'm back to work now!

This adorable little girl fought sleep, but as I always tell parents, "they all need to sleep eventually." Sure enough she drifted off after a while and it was all smooth sailing from there!

I'm thoroughly enjoying editing this session because this little one has such perfect, gorgeous skin that it's been just a dream to finish her photos!

Congratulations on your cute little addition to the family!

The Studio

My new studio is about 75% complete so I thought it would be a good time to share this exciting news! Warning: This might be a lot of reading!

It has been a huge construction project (and difficult to find the time to put it all together) but one that will be very important to all of my future clients. Over the past few months all of my clients have opted to try out the studio and they have braved the half built walls and lack of paint to have their babies photographed here instead of at home and the results have been just amazing!

My studio will provide all of the comforts of home and a relaxing retreat for parents while I photograph their newborns. Older siblings are always welcome at the studio and a separate playroom with exciting new toys is available to occupy their time while the baby has their photo shoot! The addition of a small window at couch level has just began so parents can keep an eye on their child in the playroom without having to get up from feeding baby or sitting down for a much deserved break!

The most important part of this studio is it will allow me to have my lighting at desirable angles and leave enough room to photograph your little ones and perfectly capture these special memories for you. While I enjoy traveling to my customers and will continue to do so if preferred, it has been very difficult for me to do my job in many situations. I often would need to rearrange client's entire livingrooms just to find enough space for setup! This is both very time consuming as well as stressful on new parents. Also, traveling with a large assortment of props and lighting just isn’t possible. I don’t like to be restricted or not be able to bring everything to a shoot that my job requires.

My clients will no longer need to worry if their space is adequate, not need to do last minute clean up jobs at home (which can be so difficult to even think about when exhaustion from a new baby takes over), and not need to find a babysitter for Fido - they can visit me in studio and let me do the worrying!

What to expect at my studio:

My goal is to always make sure my clients feel at home when here. If you ever need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to ask! I want you to feel relaxed and be able to take your mind off the piles of laundry, the dishes and the floors that need sweeping at home so you can focus on this very important photo session that will only take a few short hours of your time but give you memories that will last forever!

I always keep a pitcher of ice water available but a coffee fix can be accommodated easily as well!

When you come to my studio please keep in mind that you are coming to my home! I have family pets (plenty of them!) and a child (only one!); none of whom bite but will probably greet you at the door! The studio, however, is a pet-free zone and is also sanitized the morning of every photo shoot. Rest assured that you are bringing your newborn to a germ-free environment!

Dads often find themselves getting impatient during the photo shoot as it can be a bit of a process getting baby off into a nice deep sleep. My solution for this is internet! Wireless is available in the studio so please feel free to bring a laptop, iPad, or other device to occupy your time while here! Moms are always interested in the cute props and adorable poses I position their babies in. Dads, not always ;)

Another thing to take into consideration is the temperature. You will find that the studio will be very warm for your newborn so wearing summer clothes in the middle of January isn't as ridiculous as it might feel! This is another big advantage to having studio space - I no longer will be asking parents to turn their heat up "just a little more" and heating the entire house up to 80°!

I'm looking forward to starting 2012 off working in my own little creative space! I just ask that for now, you look past the unfinished drywall and partially installed baseboards and keep your mind on the important part - the gorgeous finished product... your baby's photos of course!

See you soon!

Lots of storage for my most frequently used props right in the studio area and right at arms reach!

Plenty more storage space for the large props in a separate room off the studio! Be warned - there's so much stuff in there you might not find your way back out!

The "hat tree" where you can choose which hats you'd like your baby to wear in your adorable photos! I often switch them out with others from the storage room!
